Police Arrest Man for Fatal Shooting of Man in Arlington

Police said they arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Arlington Wednesday night.

Arlington police said they found the victim — later identified as Leonard Byrd — at the Rush Creek Apartments in the 1200 block of White Hall Road at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses reported seeing two men arguing before hearing several gunshots.

According to a statement released Thursday, police said they questioned Deontay Hampton about the shooting. Hampton left police headquarters, but officers found him nearby and arrested him for public intoxication.

Detectives spoke to Hampton, who police was later charged murder.
