Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Fled Into Zoo

Dallas police said Thursday that the man who eluded authorities last week after fleeing into the Dallas Zoo has been arrested.

Police said they arrested Brynell McFarland on Thursday afternoon at the apartment of his girlfriend after covert surveillance for several days.

McFarland, 23, was arrested without incident at about 1:45 p.m.. He was wanted on a probation violation for aggravated robbery.

In a statement on the arrest, police said McFarland's family cooperated with police and tried to convince him to surrender.

McFarland's family is from Louisiana, and his girlfriend is his only connection to Dallas, police said.

On April 29, officers were serving a warrant at a nearby apartment when two men ran and jumped a fence into the zoo.

One of the men was quickly detained and later released. Police evacuated a portion of the zoo while they searched for McFarland.

The zoo was shut down for several hours.
