Plano Police Seeking Lunchtime Purse Thief

Plano police are looking for a suspect used to going out to lunch on someone’s dime, so to speak.

Officer David Tilley tells NBC 5 they have a woman on camera using stolen credit cards at two different banks.

Detectives think they’ve connected her to a string of crimes, including three in Plano and one in Frisco.

The crimes all have common threads.

They’re happening around lunch time at popular, crowded restaurants, usually ones where a diner pays and orders before sitting down.

The victims are women who hang their purses over the backs of their chairs.

“In some cases, they’ve actually kind of felt a bump,” said Tilley. “We want to get the message out to everybody, regardless of what city you’re in. This is something that can happen to you.”

Police believe the suspect grabs the purse and usually tries to use the stolen credit cards within minutes of the crime.

Plano detectives have recovered a fake ID they believe she used to fraudulently withdraw money.

Victims have dealt with “thousands” in fraudulent banking claims, says Tilley.

All the crimes have happened in the Preston Road corridor.
