Perry to Texans: Help “Stop the Bleeding”

Governor's campaign launches Web site criticizing bailout

Republican Gov. Rick Perry is keeping up his criticism of federal bailout programs with a new Web site his campaign launched that asks Texans to join an online petition.

The site urges viewers to help "stop the bleeding" in Washington, D.C.

"Sign this petition and add your voice to a growing chorus of Americans who are fed up with Washington and sending a simple message: 'STOP!' " states the site, which was paid for by Perry's political campaign.

Perry has been critical of federal bailout and economic stimulus bills pushed during the administrations of former President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama. He has said if some of the federal stimulus money arrives in Texas, he will examine it item by item and support what is beneficial to the state.

Perry is among the few governors who have been so vocally opposed to the federal spending bills.

'"When billions of taxpayer dollars are carelessly dispensed with little or no oversight to companies mired in the consequences of their own mismanagement, Americans must express their outrage in ways that are civil yet effective. For lack of a better word, we are dumping tea into a digital harbor in hopes that federal lawmakers will stop the madness and find sensible approaches to our nation's financial challenges," the Web site states.
