Perry Is Latest Governor to Get Suspicious Letter

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become the latest in a string of state governors to receive a suspicious package.

Perry's office said they received an envelope Wednesday at an office not in the state Capitol. It contained a white powder that was determined not to be toxic, officials said.

At least nine other governors have received similar packages this week. Similar envelopes have been received this week in Alabama, Alaska, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana and Rhode Island.

It was not yet clear if the Texas letter had a Dallas postmark like the other mailings.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman was on the scene and did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press.
