Police told NBC 5 that a pickup truck traveling westbound on the Northwest Loop 820 service road struck a van that was broken down on the shoulder near Marine Creek Parkway at about 4:30 p.m.

A man inside the van, 51-year-old David Rajski, was injured and transported to an area hospital in critical condition, police said. Rajski died a short time later.

On Wednesday, NBC 5 spoke with Rajski's close friend and neighbor, Russell King. King says Rajski was the guy who would give you the shirt off of his back.

โ€œWe have helped each other out over the years. You name it. I have a huge deck. I owe half of it to him. We built it together. We have built porches. Just helped each other out in so many ways, and just became very very very close,โ€ added King.

King says that his friend was a painter, but his real passion was music. Rajski did not have any family in the area. Once King found out from Sheriffโ€™s deputies, he had to call Rajskiโ€™s siblings to let them know. As of Wednesday afternoon, they were on their way to Springtown.

โ€œHe was a nice guy, worked hard to make it. He was getting his life back on track and had found the Lord again. It seemed like everything was coming together for him,โ€ he added.

Two teenagers in the truck remained at the scene with minor injuries, police said.

Investigators believe speed contributed to the crash.
