Elementary students from Georgetown went to Austin asking to make pecan pie the official state dessert.
Of course, the youngsters had a delicious prop to help their lobbying efforts, carrying around a pie for legislators to sample.
"A lot of other states have desserts, but not Texas," a student named Jude said.
"Since the pecan and pecan tree are state symbols, I think it would fit in perfectly," Ashlyn Klausen said.
The lobbying worked -- everyone on the senate administration committee voted to pass the bill.
The full Texas senate should vote soon on measure.
