Pearland Mother Arrested in Drowning Deaths of Twins

A Pearland woman has been arrested and charged in the drowning deaths of her 15-month-old twin daughters.

Twenty-one-year-old Barbara Ramirez-Sifuentes was arrested Sunday on two counts of manslaughter.

A grand jury indicted her on the charges last week.

Authorities say Ramirez-Sifuentes found her daughters, Savannah and Sabrina Russo, unresponsive in their home's bathtub Feb. 17 and called police.

The twins were taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The Harris County Medical Examiner has ruled the deaths were homicides.

Ramirez-Sifuentes' 3-year-old son was taken by Child Protective Services shortly after the incident and placed with relatives.

She was arrested Sunday, but according to KPRC in Houston, she is now free on $100,000 bond.

At the time of the arrest, officers say Ramirez-Sifuentes seemed completely oblivious as to why she was being pulled over, said KPRC.

"She was very surprised she was being pulled over. She didn’t know why she was being pulled over and wanted to know why there were this many patrol cars on the scene," said Constable Phil Sandlin with the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office.

It wasn't immediately clear if she has an attorney.
