Oregon Christmas Tree Harvest Headed to North Texas

A helicopter speeds up the Christmas tree harvesting at the Noble Mountain Tree Farm near Salem.

General manager Bob Schaefer tells the Statesman Journal a helicopter has harvested as many as 14,000 Christmas trees in one day.

Noble Mountain is one of the largest Christmas tree growers in the state, and Oregon is one of the top-producing states in the nation with 65,000 acres.

Noble Mountain is cutting trees this week destined for Dallas, Texas. The farm ships trees to 15 states, mostly in the South.

The trees are put in refrigerated containers to keep them fresh for the holiday.
