One Dead, Four Shot At Quinceañera

11-year-old shooting victim is among the victims

One man is dead and several others are injured after a shooting at a Quinceañera in Ellis County Saturday.

Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Wickliffe Road in Ferris, south of Dallas, after midnight Saturday.

Lt. Rick White with the Ellis County Sheriff's Department said an argument erupted into violence.
In a matter of minutes, four people were shot, two were stabbed and two others badly beaten.

A man in his 30's died at the scene from a gun shot wound. An-11-year-old boy who was shot in the stomach is recovering at Children's Medical Center Dallas.

A 31-year-old woman was beaten.  Victims were taken to five DFW area hospitals.

The 15-year-old girl, the subject of the Quinceañera, was not physically injured.

Officers are having a hard time investigating the violence partly because the victims are having a hard time communicating due to their medical conditions.  Police have interviewed 30-40 people so far.

Two handguns have been recovered at the scene. At this point, no one has been arrested.  It's not known what started the arguments.

A Quinceañera marks a 15-year-old girl's birthday and passage from childhood to young womanhood. Some families save money for years to mark the occasion that starts in church with Catholic traditions.  Later, families and friends gather for a party that may include food and dances.
