Thongrivong and his partner, Lt. Earnest Sherman, were patrolling near Santa Fe and Fairview avenues when Thongrivong collapsed at about 4 p.m. Friday. Sherman and a witness performed CPR until medical personnel arrived, according to police.
Thongrivong was taken to Baylor University Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
There is no word yet on what caused him to collapse.
NBC 5 confirmed that Thongrivong's son, Alex, is an officer with the Fort Worth Police Department whose squad car was severely damaged when a pickup truck crashed into it at the scene of a wreck March 23.
