Officer Opens Fire at NorthPark Mall Shoplifters: Police

Dallas police said an off-duty officer fired shots at three women who were suspected of shoplifting at NorthPark Center mall.

Security officers at NorthPark Center called police at about 1:10 p.m. Sunday about shoplifters trying to run away from the mall.

According to police, a mall security officer stood in the way of the thieves' car. To avoid being run over, the officer jumped onto the hood the the car, police said.

Witnesses told police a uniformed, off-duty police officer working at the mall tried to arrest the thieves, and fired shots at the car.

According to officers, three women were seen inside the car, between the ages 20 and 30 years old. They eventually got away.

The officer who fired the shots was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

There have been no reports of injuries, police said.
