Officer Accused of Tripping Students at Game

A Central Texas police officer has been put on paid leave after video surfaced allegedly showing him tripping and pushing students as they rushed a playing field after a state championship soccer game.

The Austin American-Statesman reports that in a YouTube video, Georgetown Police Department Officer George Bermudez could be seen tripping one student and grabbing another one after the girls soccer team at Vandegrift High School in the Leander school district beat Wiley East High School and students rushed onto the field to celebrate.

Georgetown police spokesman Roland Waits says Bermudez's actions were not appropriate measures for crowd control. The incident has been referred to the police department's internal affairs unit.

Pam Waggoner, the president of the Leander school board, says parents who witnessed the incident were upset.
