Pursuit Ends in Deadly Crash on I-45 in Ellis County

Police say the driver of a stolen motorcycle led officers on a pursuit that ended in a deadly crash on Interstate 45 in Ellis County Saturday morning.

The pursuit originated near Ennis when a sheriff's deputy tried to stop the driver, who instead tried to get away, according to Lt. James Saulter,  Ellis County Sheriff's Office.

At about 11 a.m., the motorcycle rider crashed into the back of a semi-truck in the northbound lanes of I-45, just south of Palmer, Saulter said.

The driver was killed at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.

The Texas Rangers were asked to assist in the investigation. All lanes of I-45 were reopened just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

NBC 5's Tim Ciesco contributed to this report.
