North Texas Pickpockets Strike at Nail Salon, Funeral

Pickpocket thieves are stepping up in North Texas and striking when you might least expect it.

A woman at a Fort Worth nail salon on Camp Bowie had her wallet stolen Monday night in a crime seen on surveillance video.

In the video, you clearly see her purse right next to her and then the wallet getting ripped right out, as the woman ran off.

And on Tuesday night, a Dallas family told NBC 5 about their pickpocket ordeal. Police believe a woman stole debit cards while attending a funeral viewing last Thursday night.

The funeral was for Ashley McAdams’ father, a truck driver who lost his life in an accident last month.

The woman pretended to know the McAdams family, and when no one was looking stole two debit cards. She then went right down the street to buy gift cards, police said. Surveillance pictures from the pharmacy show the woman making the purchase.

“It just hurts me. How could somebody live with that? Especially bringing a child with her. She brought her own child with her,” said McAdams.

McAdams said the thief made at least $700 in purchases just after leaving the funeral home.

“My wallet was out, not thinking, 'OK someone's gonna go through my wallet,' and she did,” said McAdams.

Dallas police are hoping someone can identify the woman in the surveillance pictures recorded right after the heist.

“My message is, ‘I hope you can live with yourself, and disrespecting myself,’ because it really disrespected us,” said McAdams.
