North Texas Grandmother Says Grandson was Killed in Chattanooga Shootings

A North Texas grandmother says her grandson, a sailor who grew up in Ohio, is among those killed in the attacks on two military facilities in Tennessee.

Linda Wallace of Midlothian said her grandson, Randall Smith, was one of the victims in the shootings that killed five Marines on Thursday in Chattanooga.

Smith was a reservist serving on active duty in the Navy.

Wallace said Smith grew up in the northwest Ohio city of Paulding, near the Indiana state line, and joined the military after attending college in Ohio.

Wallace said she had spoken with her daughter who was with Smith on Friday, but didn't know many details about his injuries. Smith was declared dead on Saturday, July 18, two days after the shooting.

Wallace said her grandson is survived by a wife and three young daughters who aren't yet school-age.
