North Texas Charity Out Thousands After Break-In

The CoServ Charitable Foundation is providing a $15,000 emergency grant to help a North Texas nonprofit recover after a recent break-in.

Special Abilities of North Texas estimates it lost  about $50,000 to $60,000 worth of items, including a 24-passenger bus, after a break-in at its main campus in Lewisville.

The organization serves people with special needs and developmental disabilities and helps 150 to 200 people each year.

Troy Greisen, president and CEO of Special Abilities, said he was very thankful for CoServ’s assistance.

“This is amazing, incredible news for us,” Greisen said. “I can’t tell you how much this means to us and how it will help turn a big negative into a major positive.”

“Thanks to the generosity of CoServ Members, Customers and Employees, CCF is set up to meet emergency needs in an immediate way,” said Stacia Sims, President of the CCF Board. “We recognized the need to act quickly to assist this organization on its path to recovery.”

Thieves gained entry to the group's building through a back window, ransacking offices, destroying indoor and outdoor security systems and stealing laptops, tablets, thousands in cash and even silent auction items set aside for the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, the Great Gatsby Gala on Oct. 9, according to Greisen.

Anyone else who wishes to help can contact Greisen at 972-317-1515 or email him at Troy@SpecialAbilities.net.

Lewisville police are investigating.
