In the wake of the Orlando terror attack, which left 50 dead and 53 others wounded, blood supplies are being put to the test.

OneBlood, the Orlando area blood bank providing blood and platelet donations to hospitals, said on Twitter on Sunday that blood donations will be needed for several days.

That call for blood has been answered by long lines of donors. So many donors turned out that OneBlood said on Twitter that all of its centers and bus locations were at capacity.

On Monday morning the organization said donors should make an appointment to donate.

While donations locally in Central Florida continue to come in, other blood centers across the country are assisting by providing blood to make sure the victims have enough for surgeries and in their recovery.

The American Red Cross says it typically does not supply blood to hospitals in the Orlando area, but it is assisting.

In a statement the national organization said, “the Red Cross is providing a small number of blood products to support Florida hospitals in response to the shooting, and we stand ready to provide additional blood and blood products as needed.”

In North Texans, several blood donor drives are scheduled this week. The Red Cross says blood donations are needed daily across the country, the tragedy in Orlando highlights that need.
