North Texan Gets Nearly 16 Years in Mortgage Fraud Cases

A North Texas man has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison in a $2.4 million mortgage fraud scam with payments sent to his private mailbox.

Marcus Brian Curry of Allen last July pleaded guilty to mail fraud in cases involving more than 50 homeowners or buyers. He was sentenced Monday in Sherman and awaits a hearing on making restitution.

Curry owned South Coast Group LP.

Prosecutors say he used mail advertisements to solicit homeowners having financial problems, saying they could protect their credit by transferring the titles to him and he'd make the mortgage payments.

Curry then sold the property to new buyers, didn't mention the first lien and usually skipped making the mortgage payments.

The scheme began in 2006. Curry tried to finance the mortgages himself.
