Nightly Closures of I-30 in Fort Worth Start This Week

Closures are for Chisholm Trail Parkway Construction

The connections to and from Interstate-30 and the Chisholm Trail Parkway have been open for months, but the construction along the interchange continues.

Some drivers say they simply avoid the area, while others just deal with the narrowed lanes and congested traffic.

Starting Monday night all westbound traffic between Summit Avenue and Forest Park will be diverted each night until at least Feb. 14, and the work could go into next week as well. One eastbound lane of I-30 will also be closed. The closures will start at 9 p.m. each night and re-open at 5 a.m. the next day.

"It's overhead work that you cannot do with live traffic beneath you, so it’s a safety measure," said Michael Rey, a spokesman for the North Texas Tollway Authority, which built the Chisholm Trail Parkway toll road.

Crews will be pouring cement for the final on-ramp from the westbound frontage road to the CTP westbound lanes.

Throughout the interchange area, work continues with a bevy of cranes, back hoes, dump trucks and other construction vehicles. Rey said the city, the Texas Department of Transportation and NTTA regularly get calls asking about when the work will be completed.

"We do hear about it," Rey said. "We understand nobody likes construction, but again keep in mind we’re doing this as quickly as we can safely do it."

Work was slowed in the area during the holiday shopping season and then during the Stock Show to reduce any additional congestion in the area. Now the pace of work will pick up before spring break arrives next month.

"So we’re trying to get in this work that is so impactful," Rey said. "We’re doing it overnight, off peak hours."

The goal is to have all the work done here by sometime this spring, which means the orange cones days are numbered.

"And we’re almost done. We’re almost out of here," Rey said.
