NewsFlash: Traffic is Horrible in NE Tarrant County

Inrix, a GPS navigation software company, has confirmed what many North Texans have known for a while ... traffic sucks at Loop 820 and Rufe Snow Road.

Inrix said traffic at that intersection is congested for more than 40 hours per week, making it the worst traffic bottleneck in all the Metroplex.  Even worse than anything approaching the High Five.

Traffic along Loop 820 between Rufe Snow and Interstate 35E is likely to stay horrible until the North Tarrant Express Project widens the two-lane highway. The NTEP is scheduled to get under way in 2010 and should be open in 2015.  It will expand Loop 820 from two lanes to six in each direction, state Highway 183 to seven lanes and include a new interchange at 820 and I-35E.

You may not have noticed, but in recent polls, DFW dropped a spot on the nationwide top-congested Metro areas list to No. 5 behind Washington D.C. (4), Chicago (3), New York (2) and Los Angeles (1).  Houston ranked No. 6.
