New Plate Designs for NFL, NASCAR, College Fans

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has a few new specialty plate designs in mind and wants your opinion.

Fans and foes of the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans can comment on proposed specialty license plates recognizing the NFL teams, as well as a few colleges and random NASCAR drivers and other topics, on the DMVs website through Aug. 12.

The NFL plates include two new full-color designs for the Cowboys, and one each for the Texans and soccer's Houston Dynamo. NASCAR has three proposed designs for Texas -- one for Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt and a generic NASCAR plate.

New license plates are proposed recognizing Texas Tech, the University of Texas at San Antonio and Baylor as well as out of state schools OU and Tennessee.  Tennessee?  Is the alumni association for Tennessee really that large in Texas?  I guess so.

The Texas Trophy Hunters Association design is black and features a skull.  Be prepared to see them on many 4x4 trucks this fall.  Though, if the truck is a Ford truck, maybe it will sport the Ford plate with the diamond plate look.

No one has been left out.  The green crowd even has a plate showing three wind turbines sponsored by Vestas, a wind power plant company.

The new designs could be available by October via myplates.com, at a one-year cost ranging from $55 to $195.
