Nearly Decapitated Boy Goes Home

Family calls 9-year-old boy's recovery a Christmas miracle

A North Texas family is celebrating what they call a Christmas miracle.

Jordan Taylor, 9, walked out of Cook Children's Medical Center on Friday, three months after he was nearly decapitated in a car crash.

His mother, Stacey Perez, said she is still in disbelief.

"It's a blessing from God -- this hospital, the doctors, everything," she said. "It's a miracle that we are going home."

The crash pulled Jordan's skull away from his spine by an inch and a half.

Perez said doctors said there was a 1 percent chance he would live and a 2 percent chance he would live but be paralyzed.

Jordan said Friday he was looking forward to Christmas and was anxious to get back to school.

"The hosp is a Godsend," Perez said. "They really, truly have angels working here."

The family said kudos go to the surgeon who fused Jordan together and to the trauma team at Cook Children's who saw him at the very beginning and gave him a second chance at life.
