Mural Pays Homage to Former NBC 5 Home

A new mural unveiled Monday at NBC 5's new Fort Worth home on Amon Carter Boulevard pays homage to the television station's former home on Broadcast Hill.

The mural painted by Fort Worth artist Dewayne Sheppard features the building on Barnett Street as well as the view of downtown Fort Worth employees remember so well.

The mural consists of three 7-foot by 7-foot canvases that hang in a hallway that is passed by production crews as well as anchors and reporters before each newscast.

NBC 5 employees were treated to many beautiful sunrises and sunsets during the station's nearly 65 years at the location on Broadcast Hill. Sheppard said he visited the building on Barnett Street several mornings to capture the right light in the sky.

Sheppard, who was born and raised in Fort Worth, has been doing murals and oil paintings for most of his life. His works are featured in several galleries around Texas and at the Adobe Western Art in the Fort Worth Stockyards.
