Multiple Vehicle Crash Near Corsicana Kills 3, Shuts Down I-45

Three people have died in a crash that closed northbound lanes of Interstate 45 Wednesday night near Corsicana, officials said.

Department of Public Safety officials said a Ford Explorer traveling south on the northbound side of I-45 collided with a Nissan Rogue head-on at about 9 p.m.

The initial crash triggered a series of crashes involving a silver Toyota Avalon, which rear-ended the Nissan, a Lexus LX470 and a Toyota Highlander, according to authorities.

The driver of the Ford was transported by air ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, according to DPS officials. The front passenger in the Ford was transported by air ambulance to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Both had serous injuries, DPS said.

A passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. The Nissan driver and another passenger were transported to Navarro Regional Hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The victims from the Nissan were identified as driver Deniro Orozco-Montes, 35, of Arlington; passenger Priscilla Silva Araujo Valencia, 28, of Sao Paolo, Brazil; and passenger Orlando Orozco, 37, of Miami.

The driver of the Toyota Avalon was transported to a hospital to be examined for possible injuries.

The northbound lanes of I-45 were closed between West Roane Road and Business 45 for several hours overnight.

Additional details about the crash have not yet been released.
