Motorcycle Chase Runs Empty on I-35E

Man led officers on high-speed chase until motorcycle ran out of gas

A high-speed chase ended abruptly overnight Friday when the man on the run ran out of gas.

A Rowlett police officer reportedly spotted a yellow Yamaha motorcycle committing a traffic violation headed westbound on the George Bush Turnpike around midnight.  When the officer tried to stop the bike, the rider took off at high speed, according to police.

The driver took several exits and made a few U-turns to escape officers, but was unable to get away, police said.

The chase then headed south on Interstate 35E through Carrollton and Farmers Branch before it ended in north Dallas when the motorcycle ran out of gas and coasted to a stop on the shoulder.

The rider surrendered to officers.

The fleeing man, whose name has not yet been released, is facing several traffic charges and a charge of felony evading arrest.
