Mother of Slain Teen to Testify Against Killer on Thursday

Testimony continues in the trial of Franklin Davis as prosecutors try to persuade a Dallas County jury to send Davis to death row for killing his children's baby sitter.

The Dallas County jury is hearing penalty phase evidence after finding Davis guilty of capital murder for killing 16-year-old Shania Gray to silence her from testifying that he raped her.

The girl's mother is scheduled to testify on Thursday. On Wednesday, prosecutors presented a former Davis girlfriend who also is the mother of one of his children. Jennifer Debrelle testified that Davis abused her during their relationship.

Defense attorneys presented a St. Louis police detective who testified about Davis' traumatic childhood, his father's early death and his mother's murder.

Jurors could sentence Davis to death or life imprisonment without parole eligibility.
