Mockingbird to Reopen

Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget, Mockingbird is Set to Reopen

It's been a nice little vacation for the people who live on Mockingbird Lane. The portion of the street that divides Highland Park and University Park is lined with beautiful homes that tens of thousands of people usually drive by every day. But the past  15 months have been quiet.  No cars,  just occasional construction during the day.

On November 22nd that all changes.  A repaved, slightly widened version of this strip of Mockingbird will open to the east-west travelers who've been forced to use residential side-streets for a long time. And since Mockingbird is one of the only major crosstown roads between Northwest Highway and downtown Dallas, the impact has been big. The spillover turned what were quiet side-streets filled with expensive homes and lots of kids, into major thoroughfares.  Neighbors blamed one tragic accident involving a pedestrian in Highland Park on the residential detours.

But now, things will return to normal with some changes aimed at making Mockingbird flow a little more freely. Turn lanes have been added at several streets to help ensure that traffic doesn't come to a standstill every time someone needs to turn on to a side street.  The project came in just under budget and 2 months ahead of schedule.

So while the brief respite for people who live on Mockingbird is over, two months ahead of schedule,  drivers and the people who live on those side streets can finally count on a return to normalcy
