Mission Woman Gets 20 Years Over Husband's Killing

A South Texas woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for masterminding the 2010 killing of her husband in a faked home invasion.

A judge in Edinburg on Thursday accepted the plea deal from Vanessa Arjona Garcia, who pleaded guilty to murder.

She originally was charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of Reyes Garcia at their Mission home. Investigators say the wife wanted her husband's money.

Her sister, Graciela Arjona, was convicted last year of capital murder in the slaying and received life in prison.

The Monitor newspaper reports one attacker pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. Another man convicted in the case awaits sentencing.

A third man who was dating Graciela Arjona awaits trial on a capital murder charge.
