A blood drive in Fort Worth is encouraging minorities to donate blood.
There is an increased demand for minority blood donors because their blood contains certain antigens that are critical for fighting hereditary conditions like sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell disease affacts 2.5 million people, most of which are African Americans, in the United States, according to the 3 Lives Blood Drive.
The blood drive will be on August 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Remington College's Fort Worth campus. To donate blood, you must be 17 years or older and weigh at least 110 pounds.
According to Remington College, the college has collected more than 13,900 pints of blood nationally.
Minority donors are in high demand, but all are encouraged to donate blood at the event.
