Mesquite Police Search for Shooter

Mesquite police are searching for the person who shot a man in a strip mall parking lot Monday night.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. in the 2100 block of Tradewind Drive.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Baylor Hospital where later died.

Police have not identified the victim, but witnesses told NBC 5 that they could hear the man screaming for help as he was on the pavement.

Witnesses told NBC5 they had never seen the man before, and he was not a customer at the nearby 7-Eleven.

Detectives spent hours canvassing the parking lot and collecting statements from witnesses and residents of a nearby apartment complex.

Police also checked surveillance cameras hoping to catch a glimpse of the suspect before he ran away.

No arrests have been made and police say this is an active investigation.
