Mesquite Police Investigate Fatal Hit and Run

The Mesquite Police Department needs the public's help finding the driver involved in a fatal hit and run Saturday morning.

Police were called to the 4300 block of Interstate 30 near Motley Drive for a dead person lying in the grass. When officers arrived they found the person had been hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Police say the fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. and involved a silver, early 2000s model pickup or larger SUV made by General Motors.

Police say the vehicle could be a Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado or Avalanche, or a GMC Sierra or Yukon or maybe even a Cadillac Escalade. The vehicle will have noticeable front-end damage includeing a broken front right headlight and a passenger side rearview mirror that's damaged or missing.

Police are withholding the dead person's gender and name pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information about the hit and run is asked to call the Mesquite Police Department Traffic Unit at 972-216-6679. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.

Police say this is the 17th fatal crash of 2017, 18 people have died this year as compared to 13 for the same period of time in 2016.
