Two students were detained after running into Mesquite High School following a shooting at a nearby bank Thursday afternoon, police said.
No weapons were found on the students, the district said, and police said it's not clear what role, if any, they may have had in the shooting.
The shooting prompted a lockdown and students were dismissed on time. According to police, a person was shot in a parking lot at the bank in the 100 block of West Main Street at about 2 p.m. The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
A witness to the shooting saw two people run from the area toward Mesquite High School -- just a couple of blocks to the east. The two were also seen on surveillance video entering the school. Moments later the campus was locked down.
A large number of police officers arrived at the school and quickly found and detained both of the individuals, who were students at the school, without incident.
From Texas SkyRanger, police could be seen searching shrubbery and trash bins both on campus and at nearby businesses. It's not clear if anything was found.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Police have released no further information about the victim or what led to the shooting outside the bank.
