After nearly 30-years in their old home on Berry Street, MedStar opens a new facility at 2900 Alta Mere Drive. The new facility, which is more than three times the size of the old one, will accommodate 450 employees — up from about 150 — and 55 of ambulances.

"People have a little bit more elbow room, but also it makes it more of an efficient operation because we can bring everything through in one facility," MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

The $12.5 million facility was financed with MedStar's savings account and didn't cost Tarrant County taxpayers. The building will be paid off within eight years.

"This facility is truly state of the art," Zavadsky said.

MedStar will host an open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday with free tours and refreshments.
