Marshal: Man Dies in Police Shootout Near Houston

A federal agent says officers have fatally shot a murder suspect and captured another after a shootout near Houston.

U.S. Marshal Gary Blankinship tells the Houston Chronicle a police chase ended Thursday evening in an industrial area in east Harris County. He says the men are suspects in at least four unrelated homicide cases in the area that he called "brutal."

Blankinship says the chase began when authorities tried to serve a warrant. He says the men opened fire on the officers.

None of the officers were injured. It's unclear if the arrested man was injured.

Authorities have not released the names of the men or the officers.

Federal, state and local authorities are investigating.
