Many North Texas Lakes, Boat Ramps Close Monday

With the large amount of recent rain and another chance of severe weather Monday, many North Texas lakes are closed on Memorial Day.

In 2014, three Grapevine Lake boat ramps were closed because the lake was so low. At only 62 percent full, the lake's depth was 10 feet below normal.

This year, Grapevine Lake is 18 feet above normal, 100 percent full and at risk for flooding if boats were allowed on the water. Murrell Park on Grapevine Lake is closed Monday, as are all eight of the lake's boat ramps.

With the risk of severe storms moving in Monday afternoon, officials decided that the lake was too unsafe for boaters.

Lewisville Lake has also seen rising water levels, as rain has flooded campgrounds, recreation sites and golf courses.

"It's unbelievable," lake visitor Todd Duffield said. "Normally it's completely dry out here, so I had to come out here and at least look at it."

Grapevine Lake is one of many North Texas lakes to close boat ramps on Memorial Day after the large amount of recent rain and another chance of severe weather ahead.
