Nylabone Dog Chew Toys Recalled for Salmonella Risk

A New Jersey manufacturer is recalling a line of popular dog chew toys because of a risk of salmonella contamination, according to a news release.

Officials from TFH Publications, Inc. said they are recalling one lot of 1.69-ounce packages of Nylabone Puppy Starter Kit chew toys after the presence of salmonella was found during routine testing.

The recalled package, which contains three bones, is marked with Lot No. 21935 and an expiration date of March 22, 2018.

Salmonella can affect animals that ingest the product and there is risk to humans that handle contaminated products.

Symptoms of salmonella include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Pets with salmonella infections can be lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting.

No illnesses have been reported.

Consumers who have purchased recalled packages should stop using the product immediately and can return the unused portion for a refund. For questions, contact the company at 855-273-7527.
