Man Who Drove Stabbing Victim To Hospital Charged In Slaying

Police Say 2 Teenagers Fought About Girl

Police said Sunday a 19-year-old man was charged in a fatal stabbing after he drove the victim to the hospital.

Investigators said 17-year-old Max Brustein was stabbed in the parking lot of Lone Star Comics on Independence Parkway in Plano at about 3:45 a.m.

Jose Torres, 19, of Richardson stabbed Brustein during a fight about a girl, police said.

"They are associates," Officer Rick McDonald said. "I don't know what type of associates they are, but they do know of each other at least by name and face. I just don't know if they're good friends or what exactly is their background."

Torres drove Brustein to a local hospital, where the Plano Senior High student died at about 6 a.m., police said.

Torres, who has been charged with murder, was being held Sunday night in the Plano City Jail.

According to the arrest report, Torres is a shift manager at a local Jack in the Box restaurant.

Plano police said they are interviewing witnesses about the stabbing.
