Man Indicted In Slaying Of Broncos' Williams

DA: Willie Clark faces 39 counts, including 1st-degree murder

Prosecutors say a grand jury has indicted a suspect on murder charges in the 2007 drive-by shooting of Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said Wednesday that Willie Clark faces 39 counts, including first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Clark is in federal custody in a separate case. He is the first person to be indicted in Williams' death.

Morrissey said the case is not closed.

"This will continue to be an ongoing investigation," he said.

The 24-year-old Williams was shot and killed while riding in a rented limousine early on New Year's Day in 2007 after leaving a Denver nightclub. Officials said there was an altercation at the party he attended right before the shooting.

Williams was originally from Fort Worth.

His mother told NBC 5 on Wednesday night that she wants someone convicted in the killing and the case closed before she comments on it.
