Man on the Run After Injuring Officer

Officer expected to be OK after being clipped by car

A man is on the run and a Dallas police officer is recovering after being hit by the driver of a stolen car, police say.

The officer was conducting a routine traffic stop at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near Lovers Lane and East Northwest Highway when the driver suddenly drove off, clipping the officer.

The driver crashed a short time later after hitting a vehicle and striking a support wire for a utility pole before ending up in a ditch near Abrams and Walnut Hill.

The driver then escaped on foot.

The crash snapped the top part of the utility pole, knocking out power to the area.  Utility crews are working to restore service to the area. Temporary signs have been installed at the intersection to help direct traffic until power is restored.

The officer is expected to be OK.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been revealed, faces multiple charges including assault on a public servant, felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
