Suspect in Woman's Death, Amber Alert, Spotted in Colorado

Texas authorities believe a 44-year-old man they've identified as a person of interest in the death of a woman and abduction of her two daughters is in southern Colorado.

Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said photos Dec. 30 from a convenience store in Trinidad, Colorado -- about 200 miles (321.85 kilometers) south of Denver-- appear to show Terry Allen Miles.

Miles is being sought for questioning in the death of 44-year-old Tonya Bates and the abduction of her two daughters from the north Austin suburb.

Banks said Wednesday that based on tips investigators obtained video surveillance from a business in Colorado. From the video, law enforcement positively identified a man in the video as Miles.[[467938823,R,400,225]]

Banks said the missing girls were not seen with Miles inside the business.

"Again our primary focus is to bring 7-year-old Lulu and 14-year-old Lily home safely," Banks said. "I wish I could give you a lot more information but we are working very hard, very diligently to bring them home safely."

Banks did release a photo taken from the surveillance video and reiterated that police are still looking for a 2017 Hyundai Accent with Texas license plate JGH 9845, but acknowledged that Miles may have swapped the plate on the vehicle or made other alterations.

Round Rock Woman Found Dead, Children Missing

Miles and Bates were roommates. Her body was found Sunday at the home they shared. It's not clear how long she was dead.

Banks said Wednesday the girls weren't in the photos but police received tips from people claiming to have seen them.

With Miles believed to be out of state, authorities in Round Rock canceled the Amber Alert in Texas. The Amber Alert is active in other states.
