Hood County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man they say fatally shot his wife as she called 911 from outside of their Granbury home Thursday night.[[291839071,L]]
According to investigators, 65-year-old LaVera Aiken Dooley called 911 from her driveway at about 10 p.m. and told police that she thought her husband was going to shoot her.
Dispatchers then heard gunshots.
A second 911 call came moments later, though this one was from the woman's husband, 51-year-old Tommy George Dooley.
Authorities said they arrived at the home on the 6600 block of Colonial Drive just after midnight Friday and found LaVera Dooley dead. She had been shot six times in her vehicle, police said.
Investigators said she was trying to back out of her driveway, but her husband's vehicle was blocking her. She called 911 from her locked vehicle just before he shot her through the vehicle's windows, according to sheriff's deputies.
Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds said they arrested Tommy Dooley and charged him with murder after he told them he killed his wife. Dooley's bond was set at $500,000.
Authorities had responded to previous domestic disturbance calls at the home, Deeds said.
No children were in the home at the time, authorities said.
