Mother Loses Only Son In Dallas Shooting

Police search for motive and shooter

A Dallas woman who lost her husband a few years ago, must now cope with the killing of her only child.

Dallas police are looking for the person who gunned down 28-year-old Robert Salas while he waited in his car outside of a Marshalls store. He routinely picked up his mother after she got off work at night.

It happened just after 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of West Illinois Avenue in Dallas.

Police said the driver's side window was shattered and broken glass was on the ground outside the vehicle, but investigators would not say if they thought the man had been shot through the window.

Elijah Solis was one of Salas' childhood friends.

"I can't believe it you know it doesn't seem real yet," Solis said. "I've known him since I was four... that's one guy who doesn't deserve it I can tell you that much.  I haven't seen him do an unkind thing to anybody, it just it makes me sick."

We talked to a spokesperson for the Marshalls store where Salas mother worked and they issued this statement:

"While we were saddened to learn of this incident, this is a now a police matter and we are therefore unable to comment further," said Doreen Thompson, TJX spokesperson.

The family also released a statement, in it they express that they want justice for Salas and would like for any witnesses to come forward.

Dallas Police do not know of a motive at this time. No one has been arrested in the case.
