Man Shoots, Kills Self After Chase: Police

A man who police believe was about to rob the Sterling Bank in North Dallas shot and killed himself with an officer's gun.

Employees with the bank on the 5000 block of Verde Valley Lane spotted the man, dressed in all black, acting suspiciously in the parking lot. They locked the doors and called the police before he could enter.

When officers arrived, the man, identified as Khalifa Tehran King,  led police on a short chase before he stopped the car in a parking lot near Montfort Drive and Harvest Hill Road.  King then pulled out the gun and shot himself, police said.

Police said King's brother is an undercover Dallas police officer and that King killed himself with his brother's service weapon.

Because the officer works undercover, Dallas police are not releasing his name.

Police were quick to respond as the man had been under surveillance during an investigation into other crimes.

Bank employees had a similar incident last Friday when a suspicious person, dressed in all black, was denied entrance to the bank after acting in a suspicious manner in the parking lot.  Police have not said if the two incidents are related.
