Man Killed During Standoff with Dallas Police

Dallas police say a man who turned out to be unarmed even though he told officers he had a pistol was shot to death by police during a standoff.

The man asked someone at an area business to call police for him on Sunday morning. That call indicated he had a gun.

Police say when they arrived, they found 32-year-old Tony Menchaca on the street. They blocked off the street and maintained contact with Menchaca, who wandered around for about an hour and told them he had a pistol.

When he made gestures police thought were threatening, five officers fired on him. Menchaca was shot multiple times and died.

Police are investigating the shooting.
