Man in Irving Hotel Standoff Dies from Self-Inflicted Gunshot: Police

Irving police say a man who was sought by authorities in Van Zandt County and then initiated a several-hour long standoff Friday has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators say the man called the non-emergency line for the Irving Police Department Friday morning at about 9:30 a.m. and told dispatchers that officers in Van Zandt County were looking for him.

Van Zandt county officials did confirm to Irving police that there was an active warrant for the man for aggravated kidnapping.

When officers arrived at the Budget Inn in the 1200 block of South Loop 12, the man refused to come out and stated that he was armed, sparking the standoff.

Officers evacuated a portion of the building for safety reasons while the man was barricaded.

Irving police said in an updated just after 8 p.m. that officers entered the man's room and found him deceased.

No officers were injured or fired their weapons, police said.
