Man Given 20 Years for Scalded Child

Man pleaded guilty to reckless injury to a child

A Southeast Texas man has been sentenced to the maximum 20 years in prison for scalding his girlfriend's year-old son in a bathtub.

Orange County District Attorney John Kimbrough said Friday that 24-year-old Daniel Ray Andrews of West Orange pleaded guilty to reckless injury to a child.

Kimbrough says the boy suffered burns over about two-thirds of his body in the Feb. 26 incident. Kimbrough says there's evidence that the child had a dirty diaper, but no evidence that Andrews intentionally caused the boy's injuries.

The prosecutor says the mother was not home at the time her son was hurt.

Andrews entered his plea and was sentenced Aug. 24. Records show he was on probation for possession of marijuana at the time the boy was scalded.
