Man Gets Probation, Case Tied to Texas Officer Shot 6 Times

A North Texas man has been sentenced to probation in a 2016 case linked to his father shooting a Fort Worth officer six times before other officers killed the gunman.

Jurors in Fort Worth on Monday convicted 23-year-old Ed McIver Jr. of Weatherford of misdemeanor evading arrest and ordered two years of probation. The jury acquitted him of tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension.

Officer Matt Pearce survived being shot by 42-year-old Ed McIver, who faced warrants in an armed robbery investigation. The father and son were in an SUV in the March 2016 chase and shootout.

Other officers fatally shot the father. The son was captured.

Pearce testified he was shot twice in the leg, twice in the arm, once in the face and once in the back.
