A Dallas County man was sentenced to life in prison for raping a 23-month-old child he was baby-sitting.
Santos Rivera pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated sexual assault of a child. At his sentencing Thursday, he testified that he couldn't remember raping the toddler in May 2007 because he had been drinking and using cocaine.
Rivera baby-sat the boy while the child's mother worked as a waitress.
Rivera, who said he did not recall having sexual feelings for children, was raped when he was 7 years old on his way home from school in El Salvador. He left home six months later and lived on the streets.
At age 17, he was jailed for three months in El Salvador for trying to extort money.
