Man Dies In House Fire On New Year's Eve

Intense smoke, heat hampers rescue effort

A Dallas woman lost her husband in a house fire that broke out on New Year's Eve in the Pleasant Grove area, Dallas-Fire Rescue Lt. Joel Lavender said.

Firefighters responded to the one-alarm house fire in the 6300 block of Godfrey Avenue at about 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters' efforts to rescue the victim were hampered by thick smoke and intense heat, Lavender said. The man's wife received non-life threatening burns during the fire.

The blaze was extinguished at about 12:18 p.m.

The victim's name was not released.  Dallas fire investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.

The house did not have a working smoke detector, fire crews said.
